Stop Press -  Green Belt Review Published:

After a lenghty and detailed review of our Green Belt, commissioned by the SWJCS team and conducted by the planning consultants Nicholas Pearson Associates, we have been informed by our ward councillors that its preliminary findings have been published( allbeit in draft form). They have concluded that our Green Belt satisfies all of the relevent planning criteria, set by the government, and robustly performs its planning role and function and should not be altered or its boundaries changed. This effectively means that these highly respected and independent planning consultants have endosed what we as a community have always argued- that our Green Belt is stategically vital and should NOT be built on.

Whitehall has told our County Council to find land to accommodate approx 25,500* dwellings in South Worcestershire by 2026 of which about 11,000* houses must be found in or adjacent to Worcester City. This is a truely huge number, and has major implications for the whole of our area.

The South Worcestershire Joint Core Stratagy (SWJCS) Prefered Options Paper published in Autumn 2008 has put forward several sites surrounding Worcester, which cater for 7,300 new homes plus associated land for development and further infrastructure.

We have already been consulted on the possibility of building 500 houses at "Gwillam's Farm Shop" to the west of the Ombersley Road and, in the coming months, residents in Fernhill Heath and Droitwich are to be consulted on where in their communities development should occur.
Recently we have been  asked to give our views on potential sites for development within the Worcester City boundaries. This would allocate the remaining approximately ,3500 houses, and further employment land.
This sadly, includes Church Farm, Claines between Ombersley Road and Droitwich Road, land which has Greenbelt status.
